He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

John 3:30

Talk about turning the world’s belief system upside down! No one ever answers the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” with “I want to be less and less.” This short but powerful verse is what following Jesus is truly about: More of Him, less of self! WE are not the focus! No matter how much our culture screams that we must strive for greatness and seek attention for ourselves, we are not and never have been at the center of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The purpose of this verse is not to point out your insignificance. Making yourself “less” has nothing to do with being insignificant or unworthy. It isn’t about being lowly compared to God's holy. It’s about filling your life so full of God that He flows from you like water. It’s about directing people’s attention to the Savior of the World, rather than to yourself. It’s showing His heart to the world by loving big, showing humility and compassion, and then getting out of the way. When you are overflowing with Him, when you are showing people the way to salvation and to the greatest love story of their lives, you are anything BUT diminished or lowly. God doesn’t want you to be diminished. He just wants ordinary you to do extraordinary things for HIM! Your job is to point people to Jesus; He will do the rest.

You can’t be passionate about God if your true passion is anything else! So fill yourself up to overflowing with Jesus. Because Heaven is not filled with all the passions and obsessions and stuff of this world. It is filled with JESUS’ obsessions: His followers! Thank Him for choosing you to be one of them. You are loved!
