Truly God is good.

Psalm 73:1

Truly God is good. Before Noah obediently built the ark, he knew this truth. Before Abraham was called to follow God and promised descendants as numerous as the stars, he understood that God is good. Before any of the twelve became powerful disciples of Jesus, they needed to know this truth: God. Is. Good. Period. The list of things we don’t know about God is endless. If we let them, they cloud the truth. When we focus on what we don’t know about God and heaven and eternity, it leads us to question every part of our faith. It leads us to doubt even that which we know to be true.

The true enemy of our faith is not the unknowns; it is not the questions that remain unanswered. The true enemy is the one who tripped up Eve in the Garden. He didn’t first make her focus on what she didn’t know. He made her question God’s very goodness. The lesson Eve learned the hard way in the garden is that freedom doesn’t come from knowing everything. Instead, it comes from knowing this truth: truly God is GOOD! When we understand that, our faith grows. When we cling to that one absolute, that one certainly, our freedom grows as we walk in obedience from there.

The enemy has no power to derail your faith unless you give it to him. He has no influence over your heart and your mind until you give him permission to speak into them. The truth that combats anything the enemy throws at you is that truly God is good. Write those four little words where you will read them every day until they are securely tucked deep within your heart. Whatever you are facing, God is good. Whatever you are feeling, God is good. Whatever you are doubting, whatever lies you are believing or whatever circumstance you are fearing, God is still good! When you believe those words, you will find freedom. Then you can walk in obedience from there. You are loved!
