But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9, 10b
The Apostle Paul had once been strong in himself. He was powerful in the Jewish community, had ruthlessly persecuted Christians, and stubbornly refused to recognize who Jesus was. Jesus changed all that when He met Paul face to face on the road to Damascus. (Acts 26:12-18) Paul quickly learned about the power of God, His strength, His wisdom, and His timing. And he understood the gift of his own weakness.
In Greek, the word order of 2 Corinthians 12:9 reads, “Sufficient for you is the grace of me.” Isn’t that beautiful? Jesus essentially told Paul, “I am all the grace you need.” God brings His sufficient and powerful grace to the relationship with each of us. All WE need to bring is our weakness, because He can’t work through us if we are too full of ourselves to bow down and be the lowest. What God offers is ‘grace’ because we can’t do anything to deserve what He does for us. “Sufficient for you is the grace of me” says, “I AM the grace, I AM the strength, I AM the power and the presence and everything you need. I am ENOUGH!” It doesn’t matter what you go through, He is still enough.
You will learn about the power of God, His strength, His wisdom, and His timing when you surrender your plans and give Him room to move. Offer Him your weakness, not your strength. Trust Him, and let Him show you His power. There will come a moment when you are overwhelmed with your absolute helplessness. And that is the moment you are ready to accept “all the grace you need” from the One who gave all just to be with you. Welcome it! You are so very loved!
For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:16-17 (ESV)
