Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.
Zechariah 4:10
Have you ever noticed that God often uses the smallest things to make the biggest impact? He drastically changed history, and each of our lives, by sending the Lord Jesus to the world as a baby. When Jesus began His ministry, He chose only twelve disciples to begin the rapid spread of the Gospel to millions. He started with five tiny loaves of bread and two small fish, and He fed thousands of people...and had leftovers! He compared both the Kingdom of God and powerful faith to a tiny mustard seed that grows into a large bush. God takes what is small and makes it big.
Our world is all about the biggest and the best, but everything Jesus taught turns that all upside down. God isn't looking for the most spectacular; He’s looking for the most surrendered. He wants the teachable and faithful, not the proud and independent. He takes our smallness: our small offerings, our small lives, our small ministries, and He multiplies them with His mighty power according to His plan. He often chooses to use the ordinary to do extraordinary things. His great love and power give the insignificant great significance.
Jesus celebrates every time you take small steps of faith and make His purposes your priorities. When you are faithful in the smallest things, you will become faithful in the big things, too. Your faith and your character will grow. Not because of what you do, but because of what HE will do in and through you. Jesus takes what is small and uses it big! Do your part! You are loved!
Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 1 Corinthians 1:27
