Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:32

What do you measure things against to guide your decisions about what is right and wrong? Many people use the media, some allow politicians to steer them in a particular direction, and others are entirely influenced by social norms and the opinions of others. The problem with that is that they aren’t based on absolute truth, just opinion. Opinions change; truth never changes. God gives us a measuring stick that is absolute truth. The Bible, His very WORD, is that measuring stick. Every message our culture throws at you, must be held up against God’s Word. It reveals His heart, and you can’t follow God with YOUR whole heart if you don’t know HIS heart. 

What will be your authority? Will it be God’s Word or the world? Will it be what God says is true or what society says is true? Opinions will never set you free. They will only make you obsess and worry. Only God and His Word can truly set you free. God’s Words saturate your heart and mind every time you read your Bible. When you are confused, sad, or filled with doubt, go to your Bible. As you make that a habit, you will experience the truth of God being worked out in your life. His Word will have no effect on your life unless you believe it and accept it as absolute truth. Ask Him to help you develop intimacy with Him through prayer, and to experience Him fully through His very own words in Scripture. Trust Him. You are loved! 

Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Romans 15:4
