There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.

He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

. John 1:6-9

The moon, as stunningly beautiful as it is, has no light source of its own. Though it can light up a dark night, illuminate what would otherwise remain unseen, its light is not its own. It only reflects the sun’s light, yet sometimes, the beauty of it takes our breath away.

John the Baptist was like the moon. He shined the light of Jesus in the darkness and illuminated what others would have missed. Sent by God to speak truth, to point others to Jesus, he didn’t shine his own light; he simply reflected Jesus’ light. John’s job wasn’t to force others to accept Jesus, but to give the facts, to present the truth. The rest was up to God.

Your job, like John’s, is to point others to Christ, to give the facts and present the case. Show them that He is indeed the Light of the World. Jesus has given you life and light, so wherever you go, shine beautifully the hope that Jesus offers. Whether you find yourself in a season of peace or a season of chaos, spend time in His Word and get to know His heart. Then you can reflect His beautiful heart and glorious light to those around you. When you do your part, God will do the rest, and the beauty of it will take their breath away. You are loved!

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
