“If you keep quiet at this time, someone else will help and save the Jewish people, but you and your father’s family will all die.

And who knows, you may have been chosen queen for just such a time as this.”

Esther 4:14 (NCV)

A man named Mordecai whispered far more than these words to his cousin, Esther. He whispered hope. He whispered purpose. Esther was a stunningly beautiful young woman who basically won a beauty contest many centuries ago, but that isn’t what made her special. Her beauty gave her opportunity, and she married the king of Persia, but that isn’t why her own dramatic story is included in the Bible. Esther had the opportunity to save her people from a plot to have all the Jews put to death, but she needed to approach the king. And her remarkable place in history is remembered because of her courageous act of faith and her sacrificial love for an entire nation.

Every one of us was made for “just such a time as this”. We were created, we were chosen, we were crowned by our King, and we were called into service. We are invited to do Kingdom work, but the choice to act or walk away is always up to us. God gave Esther opportunity and courage, but if she had not chosen to act, a nation would have been destroyed. We don’t need to be royalty or beautiful or exceptionally wise and brave to have a positive impact on someone’s life. We just need to be ready when God gives us opportunities to speak truth into the lives of those around us.

God has placed you exactly where He needs you to love others well, speak out against what breaks His heart, and point others to Him. How many times have you risked relationships by sharing your story of faith with those in your life? How many times have you invited someone to church? Be like Esther and confidently approach the King. Then look for the opportunities Jesus gives to boldly step out in faith, trusting that He will lead the way. Love sacrificially, and whisper hope and purpose into the lives of others. Your faith will grow, and your courage will influence eternity. It will save lives!! You are loved!
