God once said, “Let the light shine out of the darkness!” This is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts by letting us know the glory of God that is in the face of Christ.

We have this treasure from God, but we are like clay jars that hold the treasure. This shows that the great power is from God, not from us.

2 Corinthians 4:6-7

“Clay jars”. Not beautifully carved, ornate wooden boxes or intricately painted, precious pottery, but plain, boring, worn out, cracked, chipped clay jars. That’s US! That’s where God has chosen to store His most precious Treasure. He has placed His perfect Son in imperfect, cracked, plain, ordinary US!

Around the time that Paul wrote this letter to the church in Corinth, every home had many ordinary clay jars. They were used for everything from storing food and water to holding their family treasures. They held what was the most valuable to them. In most homes, food and water were the most valuable, because they gave LIFE! They sustained, and they nourished. Paul compared us to the jars, because the real treasure isn’t the jar itself; the treasure of great value is the life-giving light and the soul-filling nourishment inside of us. Our bodies, like those clay jars, will crack, they will chip, they will deteriorate as we age, and eventually, they will be useless. But the life, the light, and the hope that is within us? THAT will last forever!

Holding Jesus in your heart is your great treasure. Not what you do, not how you look, but who you ARE, because of Whose light shines through. It’s His power, His light! When people focus on you, as a follower of Jesus, they will see imperfections. They will see that you yourself aren’t worthy of worship and praise, but the Life and the Light inside you definitely IS! The closer you get to Jesus, the more His light will shine right through your cracks, your chips, and your imperfections. People will want what you have when they see Jesus in you. They will understand that it isn’t your power, that you aren’t shining your own light, but simply letting your true Treasure shine through. So go let His light shine out from you like crazy! You are loved!
