Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.

Psalm 119:133

We all want God to tell us exactly what we should do, where we should go, and what we should be. We ask Him for direction, but if we don’t find the detailed plans we’re looking for, we cement out feet right where they are. We expect God to drop a roadmap and a timeline in our laps that will answer all of our big questions. But God doesn’t give us a traditional roadmap; He gives us His Word, and He gives us our destination! When we live with our eyes fixed on Jesus and our hearts set on eternity, He is the director of our footsteps.

God gives each of us a unique set of tools that we need for our journey: our skills, our talents and gifts, our likes and dislikes, our desires, and our passions. And with them, He equips us to serve, no matter where we are. We can shine His light in classrooms, in offices and waiting rooms, in checkout lines and at gas stations, at sporting events, and behind the wheels of our cars. He gives us everything we need to live like He lived His earthly life: compassionately, selflessly, and sacrificially.

Your job is to navigate your way through life with that “map” in your hands and your eyes on Jesus. Don’t keep asking Him to direct your footsteps if you’re not willing to move your feet. His Word is your roadmap, but there will be times when you will put it down and try to find your own way. Then you will get lured off course and allow sin to rule over you. When that happens, pick up that map and recalculate your route immediately. When He closes doors for your own good, and locks them, look for the open ones He’s asking you to walk through. The more you study His Word, the better equipped you will be to avoid all the obstacles the world will put in your path and all the doors that should forever remain locked. Jesus is with you every step of the way. So keep that map handy, check your route daily, and move your feet! You are LOVED!
