Let your gentleness be evident to all
Philippians 4:5
What in your life do you make evident to all?
Maybe you let your selfishness be evident to all, putting yourself and your desires above the needs and the hearts of others. Perhaps you let your anger be evident to all, flying off the handle in a rage and verbally slapping those around you with words that sting. It could be that you let your pride be evident to all, boasting that your way is right, or more commonly, needing to appear perfect so that others will see you that way. Maybe your jealousy is evident to all, constantly comparing yourself to others, revealing deep insecurity, but even deeper pride.
As a follower of Christ, the things in your life that are evident must point to Him! Ask Jesus to open your eyes to any self-centered thinking that steers your heart and clouds your daily life. Whatever “evidence” is revealed, know that you are not a lost cause. There is no such thing as a lost cause for a child of the King. He loves you so much, far too much to let you remain chronically unfulfilled by worldly selfish desires. Allow Him to shape your heart until it looks like His: no rage, no selfishness, no pride, no jealousy, no indifference, no fear—nothing that is contrary to His character. Ask Him to create gentleness in your life; a gentle spirit that invites others in. Ask for gentleness that loves and seeks and serves the lost, rather than loving yourself, serving your own desires, and seeking recognition.
Let everyone see who you are by showing them WHOSE you are! Live in such a way that people want what you have: a heart surrendered to Jesus, a heart of love and service. Shine His light so brightly that it points others straight to Him, because the more of His light you shine, the more gentleness there will be in this world. So let YOURS be evident to all! You are loved!
