For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

John 1:16 (ESV)

When we first said yes to Jesus, He gave us grace. He forgave our sin and welcomed us into His family, but that was only the beginning. That was just the foundation for more of His endless blessings. He continues to give us grace upon grace upon grace upon grace. Grace that will never run out, grace that will never end. But sometimes in this messy, earthly life, we lose sight of God’s grace. When we are in the middle of struggle upon struggle, loss upon loss, and pain upon pain, it’s hard to remember His grace upon grace. And when we are all wrapped up in the pride upon pride, greed upon greed, and shame upon shame of our own hearts and lives, the grace upon grace God has already given seems more than a little elusive. We long for visual proof of that abundant, endless, amazing grace that we sing about.

Many of us struggle to believe that God’s grace is unlimited because we know how humans work. We see all of our own imperfections and limitations, and we make the incorrect and unfortunate assumption that God’s grace is the same. But God’s grace is nothing like human grace, because His fullness is exceedingly, infinitely beyond what our fullness is capable of. Unlike human grace, God’s grace can’t be earned; it can’t be lost, either. We are all sinners who constantly fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), but He gives us grace anyway…every single time we fail. God’s is a grace that never tires, that never grows cold, that never runs out. Instead, it keeps inviting us closer to the Source, because only His grace will forever be enough for anything we will face.

God wants you to experience His fullness and to believe and receive His endless grace. He wants you to stop worrying about whether or not you are good enough and understand that it doesn’t matter, because HE is more than good enough, and He has declared you the same. He wants you to stop striving to work your way to Him and simply worship Him for who He is and for what He has already done. Take a deep breath and meditate awhile on His grace upon grace: His infinite, perfect, good-for-forever-and-ever grace. It is yours to know, yours to treasure, and yours to share…so pass it on! You are loved!
