So he went and did according to the word of the Lord.
1 Kings 17:5 (NKJV)
When my daughter was little, my dad (who was the most patient man on the planet) taught her how to tie her shoes. She was overwhelmed with the task, so he showed her slowly, step by step, start to finish. Before long, she was tying her own shoes without help and proudly showed everyone her newly acquired skill. If Dad had taught her the steps in the wrong order or left out an important step, or if she had been determined to teach herself without learning the correct process, she might still be wearing velcro tennis shoes as an adult!
Sometimes ministry is a kind of like that. We see all the things that need to be done, all the suffering in this hurting world, and it overwhelms us. We can’t see how God can use our tiny steps of faith and obedience to make any sort of difference. But He can, and He does. When He gives us a direction, we are to follow it as far as we can. He will give us each and every step right when we need it, and all those steps of faith create a beautiful dance of life that loves, serves, and honors Him. Our job is to follow His lead, because only He knows the exact steps for each of us to take throughout our lifetime until we take our final step on that glorious day when He calls us home.
Like Elijah, who “went and did according to the Word of the Lord”, you too, must GO and DO! But your mission doesn’t have to take you far. Just take one step at a time, and show everyone around you the very heart of God every day! God will show you the steps to take. To hear His directions, you just need to stay close to Him through His Word. So open your Bible, get to know His heart, and listen to His instructions. When you follow His lead, your dance will be beautiful. You are loved!
