Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. .

We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth.

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ.

 Ephesians 4:14-15

If someone were to launch an empty rowboat in a lake, it would drift. Without intentionally steering it toward a specific destination, and using a little muscle to effectively operate the oars, it would continually and aimlessly bob and float in whichever direction the wind blew. Eventually, it may make landfall on a rocky shore where jagged rocks cut deep gashes. Or it may end up stuck in a muddy bank or tangled in weeds that hold it tightly where it had no business going in the first place. If, however, that same boat is launched in the same lake, but effort is taken to row and steer that boat exactly where it needs to go, it will reach its desired destination. Sometimes our faith is a lot like that drifting boat. When we stop paying attention and allow this world and all its distractions to take our eyes off our goal, we get blown around by winds and tossed about by waves. Our faith may be able to bob and float for awhile, and we can usually turn it around with a bit of effort. But without putting in a little work, it will never head in the right direction.

Are you steering your faith? Faith that is not being steered intentionally is drifting aimlessly. It will eventually reach a destination, but it will most likely get stuck and tangled in places it has no business going in the first place. Perhaps your prayers have halted, your Bible reading and study are nonexistent, and since churches are still mostly closed, it’s probably been a while since you’ve stood and worshiped God in a church setting. It’s easy for your faith to drift and get stuck, or worse, to get blown around and tossed right out of your life. If your faith has drifted and seems lost at sea, it’s never too late to take hold of the oars and take it where it needs to go. Start praying right now, and make it a daily priority. Open your Bible and start reading through the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and get reacquainted with Jesus there. And for heaven’s sake, turn on some worship music and worship Him no matter where you are. Where there is sin, confess. Where there is doubt, trust. And where you lack understanding, ask for clarity. Your faith is not lost and it is not permanently stuck in the mud or weeds. It just needs you to pick it up, point it in the right direction, and use a little muscle. God will do the rest! You are loved!
