They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise!
Romans 1:25
‘Dysfunctional’ is not a word we want used to describe anything about us—ourselves, our family, our workplace, our relationships, or perhaps especially, our body. Because ‘dysfunction’ means something is not working properly. It isn’t doing what it is meant to do. It is broken. Sometimes our faith gets broken, too. It becomes dysfunctional when we believe the lies of the world rather than the Creator Himself. Most of us have had some level of dysfunction when it comes to our spiritual lives, whether our faith has simply been stagnant or we have believed lies about God, about Christianity, and about sin. When we ignore the warning signs and allow our faith to drift, we can easily find ourselves with dysfunctional faith.
When we worship things like our phones, or other things money can buy, or we follow famous, influential people instead of the God who made them, we trade God for a lie, too. We believe the lie that our hearts will be more satisfied by our constant connection to others through our phones than through deep, personal, heart-to-heart connection to our life-giving Savior. We go along with whatever trend the world is pushing, rather than holding fast to the God-breathed truth found in the pages of our Bibles. And we find it more fulfilling to spend time on Netflix than time connecting with God daily in prayer or getting to know His heart and His purposes by actually reading His Word.
Healthy relationships are characterized by frequent, honest communication. Perhaps you have some burdens, some lies, to unload to Jesus before you can freely and fully hold onto Him with both hands. Nothing in THIS world will ever give you the life and fulfillment your heart longs for. Only Jesus can satisfy that longing and bring joy and contentment to your heart and to your life. Be intentional about growing a solid relationship with Him. He will take whatever is dysfunctional, whatever is broken, and make it more than just functional; He will restore it and make it beautiful!
You are loved!
