When Jesus turned and saw them following him, he asked, “What are you looking for?” They said, “Rabbi, where are you staying?” He answered, “Come and see.”

John 1:38-39

We tend to squeeze Jesus into the tiniest cracks in our schedules. We let Him fill in whatever small spaces we have left in our overfilled days; days that barely leave us room to breathe. We make plans, we set goals, and we set out to make them happen. THEN, we invite Jesus in and expect His blessing. We call ourselves “Followers”, but we actually ask Jesus to follow us. We identify as “Believers”, but what we often want is for Jesus to get on board with our plans, rather than the other way around.

When Jesus calls us to “come and see”, He’s inviting us into a relationship. He’s calling us to join Him on the greatest adventure, and the most amazing journey, we could ever imagine. He’s asking us to step into the story that He wrote, and to live the lives for which we were created. When Jesus’ disciples were invited to come and see, they immediately accepted His invitation, and then they stayed close to Him. They wanted to know everything they could about Him, not by squeezing Him into their busy lives, but by putting themselves right in the middle of His. They set aside their plans and their dreams, because they had a new one...an INFINITELY better one!

When Jesus asks, “What are you looking for?”, do you know? Are you looking to join your Savior in the story He wrote for you? Or are you hoping He will bless the one you’re writing instead? Even if you have already said yes to Jesus’ invitation, He is inviting you to so much more! He’s inviting you to know His heart. He’s inviting you learn from Him, to see what is important to Him, and to come and see how He will bless you! Because He will!! You are loved!
