For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Romans 1:20
To believers, it is so obvious there is a Creator. We see His glory and creativity everywhere we look: scattered across clear night skies, rolling in powerful ocean waves, and growing up from soil, bursting with radiant colors and intricate designs. Paul tells us in this verse that God’s qualities are evident to all by simply observing His creation, and that there is no excuse for not knowing Him! So why do so many refuse to believe? Perhaps they just need to know where to look!
God preaches to us through the breathtaking beauty of a sunset, the wonder of a sparkling night sky, the majesty of towering mountains, and the simplicity of rippling streams. He gave us a physical world that clearly points to His existence, His character, and His power. He reveals who He is through the complexity, intricacy, and order throughout the universe. His love and care for us is evident by this earth that sustains us with everything our physical bodies need: food and water, sunlight and rain, shelter and shade. Every element we need for healthy life is all around us. And for our spiritual health, He meets our hearts right here. He gives us relationship and community. This broken, imperfect world shines brightly with God’s love and generosity and goodness.
The same God who created every star and calls them by name, also created you and calls you by name. He knows every detail of your life, and He loves you more than all the stars that shine in every galaxy. He wants you to know Him more and to tell others all about Him. Nature may eventually point them to a Creator, but you can show them who He is by the way you live and love in this world. The message of God’s salvation, His love, His mercy, and His grace are found in His Word. You just need to show them where to look. There really is no excuse. You are loved!
We’ll see what we spend the most time looking for. ~Bob Goff
