Jesus has the power of God, by which he has given us everything we need to live and to serve God. We have these things because we know him.

2 Peter 1:3 (NCV)

Our souls don’t always believe that truth, but it doesn’t get any more clear than this: "He has given us everything we need to live and to serve God.” We need nothing else—Not Jesus plus the approval of others. Not Jesus plus a degree in Theology. Not Jesus plus loads of self-confidence. Not even Jesus plus regular church attendance. When God calls us to serve Him, to step out of our comfort zones and obey His commandments to go and make disciples, He gives us exactly what we need to fulfill our calling for His purposes.

Jesus didn’t come to rescue us and adopt us into His family so the lost can just fend for themselves. He came to teach us how to reach and love so He can rescue and adopt them, too. Jesus will use exactly who we are, everything He has already given, and HIS power to do remarkable things for His holy purposes. He did it for Abraham and Noah and Moses. He did it for His twelve disciples, countless others throughout history, and He will do it for us, too. He doesn’t need us to show up with anything more than a heart surrendered, and to offer ourselves as the servants He calls us to be. Because He’s Jesus, and Jesus plus nothing equals EVERYTHING!

Do you cling more tightly to the fear of your inabilities than to the assurance of Jesus’ sufficiency? He has already given you everything you need to live the life of love and service He created you to live. He has promised a life of abundance and fulfillment, but surrender comes first. You can stop searching for some mysterious key to an incredible life of faith; you just need to reach up and cling to the One who holds the key to love, to wisdom, and to life. Jesus has put all the pieces in place. It’s your move! You are loved!
