But as for you, continue in the truths that you were taught and firmly believe.
2 Timothy 3:14 (GNT)
It’s no wonder we are more anxious and less content today than ever before in history. We are constantly overwhelmed with information at our fingertips. We spend huge portions of our time looking at screens of all sizes. And whether we like it or not, our hearts and minds are continually assaulted by a barrage of information designed to change how we feel, what we believe, what we desire, and how we live. There is so much contradiction, so much confusion. So yeah, it’s no wonder we often feel out of sorts and are unsure about what to believe.
Paul, who was like a father to Timothy, offered these words of wisdom to this young church leader. Timothy had a quiet nature and was a very young man compared to Paul, but that was no excuse. There were imposters teaching all kinds of lies to crowds of people. There were Christians being persecuted, imprisoned, and killed every day, but those were not valid reasons to stop serving the Lord, either. Paul told Timothy to continue in the truths that he had been taught and firmly believed. He basically told Timothy to cling to what he knew, God’s very Word, His eternal Truth, and God would take care of the rest.
You can’t trust everything you hear, everything you read, or even everything you see. But you can trust God and His perfect Word. When you cling to what you know, rather than worrying about all the unknowns every day, your heart will change, your desires and purpose and focus and relationships will change. When you cling to what you know, you will be transformed from selfish to selfless, prideful to humble, greedy to generous, fearful to courageous, sorrowful to joyful, and from angry and bitter to overflowing with God’s grace and love. The Bible is your only standard for absolute Truth. Period! You may be ridiculed, you might be rejected, your beliefs may even offend someone. Continue in the truths you have been taught and firmly believe, anyway. Just cling to what you know. God will take care of the rest! You are loved!
