Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’

If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Exodus 33:12-14

Somewhere along the way in our culture, taking a day off became “laziness”, and busyness became some sort of medal of honor. We all rush around like we are chronically out of time, and we talk about our time like it’s our enemy. We fill our schedules so full, there is no time for rest. We say we don’t have time to do things, but we always manage to make time for the things we want to do and need to do. We need money, so we make time to work. We need nourishment, so we make time to get groceries. We want good health and a long life, so we schedule in exercise. We need rest, so we make time for sleep. When we’re sick, we make time to see the doctor. We make time for what we need and for the things that matter.

What about our spiritual health? We often feel like we don’t have time to read our Bibles and pray. We blame our busyness for our not serving at church or in our communities, or even for helping those around us. But the things we need the most, the things that grow our spirits, are the things for which we must make time! We make time for the THINGS that are important to us. We make time for the PEOPLE who are important to us. We make time for the CAUSES that are important to us. So as Christians, we absolutely must make time for JESUS!!

What are you doing every day for your spiritual nourishment? How often are you pulling up close to Jesus to rest in Him? Rather than worshipping at the altar of busyness, worship at the feet of your Savior! Rather than getting caught up in an endless list of things you won’t find in eternity, spend time in relationship with the only One who promises you yours. God doesn’t promise to give you all the answers; He promises His presence. He doesn’t need you to know what’s around every corner or where He might send you; He just promises to go with you and give you rest. Jesus is what you need, and Jesus is what matters! Jesus is enough, and you are so very loved!
