Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.
Proverbs 4:25-27
Scientists have done experiments to see whether or not humans have the ability to walk in a straight line while blindfolded. They concluded that we do not. Time after time, test subjects ended up walking in circles if they weren’t able to keep their eyes on a fixed focal point. Apparently, wise King Solomon knew this when he wrote these proverbs. Walking through life with your eyes looking anywhere other than on Jesus will yield similar, if not far more destructive results.
You can go through life focused on worldly goals: money, possessions, success, and fame. You can spend your time focused on the successes of other people and spend your life caught in the comparison trap that forces you to strive and compete. But those are all just distractions that keep you from your true purpose: following and serving your perfect, holy Savior. You know the way because the Bible is your map and Jesus is your Leader. If you are following Him, fixing your eyes on His ways and His purposes, you will stay on the straight, safe path that leads to true contentment and joy. And when you find yourself getting sidetracked, or going completely off course and into darkness, get out that “map”, and reroute as soon as possible. He is the Light that will always show you the way! You are loved!
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105
