“Who do you say I am?”

Luke 9:20

About two weeks after my daughter was born, my not quite 3-year-old son asked, “Mommy, can you put her back now?” The answer to his question helped him learn the important truth that his sister was a permanent member of our family. And though he may not have been thrilled with my answer, that answer was the end of the discussion.

During Jesus’ ministry, He asked a lot of questions. In the combined Gospels, Jesus asked well over 300 questions! Why are questions so important to Jesus? Because the answers to His questions change lives and influence eternity! His questions help people know Him more and teach them to think and live with a heavenly perspective. We can learn a lot about Jesus by answering His many questions, and we can learn a lot about ourselves, too. We just need to start asking ourselves the right questions—the life-changing, faith-growing ones…

What do you need to stop believing about yourself? (We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5). How can you demonstrate the love of Jesus every day? (My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:12) Who do you need to forgive? (Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13) Whom do you seek to please? (If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant. Galatians 1:10) What do you need to leave behind to follow Jesus fully? (And they left their nets at once and followed him. Matthew 4:20) And who do you say Jesus is? (“The Messiah—the Christ of God!” Luke 9:20 TLB)

You may not like the questions and you may not like your answers, but if they are based in these biblical truths, it is the end of the discussion. As you follow Jesus, you will think and live with a heavenly perspective. You will change lives and influence eternity! So make your questions count! You are loved!!
