Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Too often, we rely on our own wisdom—wisdom that is one-dimensional and generally selfishly inspired. Fortunately, God has a way of showing up right in the middle of our “wise” plans to redirect our attention, correct our thinking, and rearrange our priorities. But if we are too focused on our own agenda, we will miss His gentle nudges, His loving guidance. It’s easy to ignore it, to call it coincidence. But the blessings? Those are big when we stop our striving, listen for His voice, and surrender to His way. Surrender looks like following His lead, even when we have no idea how something will turn out. Surrender is expecting Him to meet our needs without knowing how. It is trusting Him and His purposes, even when our assignments are uncomfortable and a little scary. It is relying on God to work things out, rather than fighting for control of the situation. It means letting go, not trying harder.

When you faithfully seek God’s direction, you will see Him in the small things in big ways. You will recognize His voice, His confirmations: through other people, through song lyrics, through Bible verses you’ve read countless times that suddenly seem jump off the page. God directing your future in big ways. Sometimes He just wants to give you rest because He knows when your soul needs to be refreshed. And sometimes He simply wants you to stop struggling against Him, because you won’t find Him in the striving. You will find Him in the surrender. You are loved!

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.  Psalm 32:8
