Christ himself is our peace.
Ephesians 2:14 (NCV)
Most of the time, the whole ‘peace’ thing seems to elude us. Our minds grab onto our worries and fears as if they are life rafts. Then we allow those negative thoughts to roll around in our minds, to make a home there, and they steal our joy and smother our peace. Sometimes we even convince ourselves that the more we worry about something, the more prepared we will be when bad things happen. But there is no such thing as worrying our way out of a problem, and the idea that we will be better prepared if we worry hard enough is just another ugly lie from the enemy. The truth is that when worries take control and we give them power in our lives, God is simply not our focus. We will always become fearful when we take our eyes off of Jesus and focus our hearts in the wrong direction.
Peace is not the absence of troubles or fear; it is the calm in your heart that remains regardless of the circumstances. God wants you to experience that peace, His peace, because He knows how destructive and distracting fears can become. He knows that when you are fear-focused, you are self-focused, and He wants you to be God-focused. God SPEAKS peace to you through His Word and through faithful prayer. And where He speaks peace, He creates peace. Fear doesn’t stand a chance when it’s His voice you hear and His light that’s showing you the way.
Each day brings countless opportunities to redirect your focus. You can choose to focus on your worries and nurture your fears, or you can choose to focus on Jesus and nurture your faith. He wants to show you that HE is your peace! Let Him! You are loved!
I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. Psalm 85:8
