“Be still, and know that I am God!”

Psalm 46:10

Worry starts as a single thought, rapidly spiraling out of control, and exploding in our minds as countless scenes of worse-case-scenarios. It’s the thing that grips our hearts and is capable of instantly stealing our joy and replacing our calm with chaos. It prevents us from taking steps of faith, because it makes our faith feel so small when in its presence. And it reminds us that we are not, and never have been, in control.

None of us are immune to worry and fear. We are each exceedingly aware that tragedy, illness, and all sorts of evils are lurking in dark corners, and and our tendency is to try harder to hang onto the control that we never really had. Fear is a bully, and like all bullies, it lies! It meets us in the middle of our days, often visits at night, and it makes its threats. It shows up no matter how hard we try to avoid it.

However, if you change your focus from the “What IF’S” to “What IS”, that bully vanishes. Because “What IS” is truth! “What IS” is that you have an all-powerful God who knows all and never takes His eyes off you. When fear threatens, He’s whispering, “I’ve got you!” It’s just hard to hear that beautiful voice of peace when the bully screams so loudly. That’s why God says “Be still and KNOW!” He commands you to hush the lies, calm your heart, and focus on what you KNOW! And what you know that HE is in control, HE wrote your story, and HE knows the events in every chapter. He also knows the ending, and the bully doesn’t win.

The choice is yours, every moment of every day, to allow yourself to be bullied, or to be still and trust God. Tune you heart to the All-Powerful One who whispers His promises and calms your fears, and just be still! You are loved!
