We give fear so much power over our lives. Far too many of us live by the gospel of fear in our heads, rather than the gospel of faith in our hearts.

Even though fear didn’t create us, and it didn’t sacrifice its life and shed blood for us, we give it all our attention. Even though fear doesn’t love us unconditionally, cover us with grace, and give us light and life for all eternity, we let it control us. Let’s look at what Jesus has already done about our fear, vow to live differently, and not allow fear to be our savior. Because…

When fear imprisons, Jesus frees. (Psalm 34:4-5) When fear spits out lies, Jesus calms with Truth. (John 17:70) When fear says it’s impossible, Jesus moves mountains. (Matthew 17:20) When fear says you can’t, Jesus says you can with Him. (Philippians 4:13) When fear keeps you focused on yourself, Jesus says to focus on Him! (Hebrews 12:2 NCV) When fear amplifies your weakness, Jesus strengthens with His power. (2 Corinthians 12:9) When fear abandons, Jesus pursues. (2 Corinthians 4:9) When fear says to hide your sins, Jesus says to confess and receive forgiveness. (1 John 1:9) When fear says quit, Jesus says persevere. (Romans 5:3-4) When fear keeps you looking back at your mistakes, Jesus says to look straight ahead! (Proverbs 4:25) When fear says, “You are too far gone”, Jesus says, “No you’re not…because YOU ARE MINE!” (Isaiah 43:1) See? You are so very loved!

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?  Psalm 27:1

Fear is a self imposed prison that will keep you from becoming what God intends for you to be. You must move against it with the weapons of faith and love. ~ Rick Warren
