God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

Many of us don’t actually live like we are loved by God. We may believe, but we don’t engage with others like we were worth the shedding of blood on that rough, heavy cross. When we are fearful and worrying, we are living like we can control the world. When we strive and compete, we're living like we must earn love. When we criticize and shame others, we are living like we have all the answers. When we judge others, we’re living like we believe we are the best. When we hate anyone, regardless of our reasons, we are just living in total darkness.

Do you live like someone for whom a life was freely given in your place? Do you live like you are loved? Children of the Light have no business hiding in the dark (Ephesians 5:8). If you have been doubting and uncertain of God’s love for you, you just need look at Jesus’ hands and feet. Only pure love would carry your sin and shame to the cross to be nailed right through. Once you have confessed your sin and professed your desperate need for Jesus, you can stand tall and walk in freedom. You can live like you are loved by the God of the Universe who thinks you are remarkable and beautiful and amazing and who treasures you with every breath He gives. You were bought by His blood, so live in the light of Christ that darkness can never extinguish (John 1:5). Live like you trust the only One who really IS in charge of the world. Live like you are treasured because He never wants you to strive for anything else. And live like you are a child of light, because you have the light of Christ shining in and through and all around your very being!

So exhale all your doubt, and breathe in trust. Exhale every fear and worry, and breathe in peace. Exhale perfectionism and striving and people-pleasing; breathe in rest. Exhale comparison and criticism and judgment, and breathe in Jesus! He died for you and paid the price for you because you ARE worth it. And that is love to live for! You are treasured, you are prayed for, and you are loved!

On the cross, God looked at Christ and saw you; now He looks at you and sees Christ. ~John MacArthur
