You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”
Luke 1:31-33
We make our lives harder than they need to be. We put expectations on things: events, movies, even church. But it’s the expectations we put on other people and on God that cause us so much needless disappointment and damage relationships. Any time we approach anything with a belief in our minds of “how it should be”, we are bound to be disappointed.
From cradle to cross, Jesus was King, but most people missed Him. He didn’t come as the conqueror generations of Jews were expecting. Their limited thinking and their pride caused them to completely miss the King of the World. We do the same thing. We get so hung up on how we think things SHOULD be, that we miss what IS! And we constantly put our hopes and dreams into our own plans - not God’s. Jesus’ plans don’t usually look like our plans. He moves in our lives according to His will, but we are either disappointed because He didn’t answer our prayers our way, or we assume He didn’t answer them at all.
Rather than living with chronic disappointment caused by your expectations, let go of how you think things should be. Trust in God’s limitless power and infinite greatness. Trust His plans for you in HIS story, rather than writing your own and asking Him to bless it. His plan and His purpose are so much bigger and better than you can possibly imagine! Don’t miss Him! You are loved!
