It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening.

Psalm 92:1-2

Our hearts were designed by God, for God. We were made to be connected to Him. We were made to praise Him and to seek His wisdom in all things. But most of us hit the floor in the morning focused on our agenda, rather than on our God. When we start our day without connecting to our Creator, we end up filling our hearts and minds with a thousand other things that fight for our attention. And when we’re not plugged into God’s heart, we miss out on God’s peace and His power and end up stressed, anxious, and irritable.

Setting your heart on God rewires your thoughts. It changes the way you think, the way you speak, and the way you interact with others. It moves you from self-focused to God-focused, which leads to peace and joy. It steers you away from anxious and irritable and moves you toward humble, patient, positive, and kind. But these gifts from the Holy Spirit require you to plug into Him, to make room in your heart where all the wrong things compete for space. Even good things in your life can become bad things, if they keep you from connecting with Jesus.

What things distract you and clutter your heart? What do you need to set aside in order make room for daily thankfulness to God? He doesn’t want long, fancy prayers. He just desires more of you, so make room in your life for more of Him. Begin and end your day with Jesus: with His Word, His heart, and His purposes. Set your heart on knowing Him more and getting quiet before Him each morning and every evening. When you do, your heart and your life will be transformed! You are loved!
