Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:10
Choosing between the many opportunities God puts before us can be daunting. If you’ve ever wrestled with big, life-changing decisions, you have most likely experienced the fear of making the wrong one. Anything from choosing where to serve to declaring a college major can feel paralyzing if you believe that only one way is in God’s will. But the truth is this: God is far more concerned with WHO you are becoming that He is with where you are going.
God's will is found throughout The New Testament. When you are living and loving like Jesus lived and loved, you ARE living in God's will. His will is for you to be just like Him, and the Gospels offer these instructions: Jesus made space in His schedule to help the sick. (Luke 8:49-56) He prayed for others. (Matthew 19:13) He fed the hungry. (Mark 6:30-44) He welcomed and encouraged the lost. (Matthew 9:10-13) He taught people how they should live. (Matthew 5-7) He met people’s needs. (John 2:1-11) He loved and forgave sinners. (John 8:1-11) And He taught about His Kingdom. (Matthew 11)
God’s will isn’t always about ‘Choice A’ or Choice B’. It isn’t about following the “right” road or veering off the plan He has for you. Following God’s will is about following His heart. It’s about following Jesus’ perfect example because He came to show the way. He wants you to keep your eyes on Him, your heart in tune with His, and your actions and your words kept holy.
Before you can seek God’s will in any situation, you must be connected to Him. Dig into Scripture, and spend time in prayer. He will guide you to become who He created you to be. Rather than asking yourself “Choice A or Choice B?” ask yourself, “Am I making a choice that will help me look more like Jesus?” Then follow His perfect example. Remember Who you’re serving, and do what He did. You are loved!
