For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7
You’ve heard of growing pains? Well, healthy spiritual growth has its share of pains, too. Jesus chose you for a purpose, and that purpose requires stepping out of your comfort zone. When you stretch yourself past the point that feels comfortable, take risks, and do the hard things, you will see your faith soar! Outside of your comfort zone is where amazing, life-changing growth happens.
What is God stirring in your heart right now that makes you uncomfortable? What next step of faith is He asking you to take? He may be asking you to do something like interrupt gossip among friends or invite them to church. Maybe He’s calling you to reach out to someone who’s isolated and lonely. He may be asking you to start a Bible study or serve in a new way. Perhaps He’s even nudging you toward a missions trip.
The great thing about comfort zones is that they keep changing. As God provides new opportunities, and you step into them, your comfort zone expands. What makes your heart race and palms sweat today, will be no big deal tomorrow. So prayerfully ask Jesus to illuminate your next steps. Steps that take you out of your comfort zone and into that thing that scares you. Because outside of your comfort zone is where you will learn to rely on Jesus, rather than yourself. Outside of your comfort zone is where life begins! You are loved!
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
