You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
1 Corinthians 6:12
Modern life is filled with seemingly endless choices. Some things are obviously good choices, others bad choices. But sometimes we are left with indecision and are unsure how to proceed. The decision ultimately comes down to two questions: Will I bless God with this choice, or will I offend Him? How can we know?
We have God’s Word to guide and teach us. God intends for each of us to study it and carefully choose what we will include in our lives and what we will stay away from. He does this not to take away our fun, but to protect us. Sometimes it’s still difficult to sort out. So here are some questions to ask yourself when indecision takes hold:
Does it serve others in a godly way? Will it help my ministry? Does it, in any way, control my behavior? Am I using it the way the Lord intended? Does it honor Jesus? Will it harm my body or hurt my soul? Am I surrendered to God or surrendered to a habit? Is it worth the trouble it could cause in my life? Is what I do in private a representation of Jesus?
What is holding you captive? Run your situation through these questions. Be honest, and be ready to surrender it to God and leave the struggle behind. Then you can move forward in the true freedom God gives. You are loved!
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let
yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
