Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.” But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh?

Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” God answered, “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain.”

Exodus 3:10-12

We all struggle with feelings of inadequacy at times. We often feel like we don’t measure up in life, let alone in ministry. We choose to fixate on our inadequacies, rather than on God’s power, provision, and presence. Inadequacy is a dangerous focus for Christians, because it leads us to seek to earn God’s grace, rather than to receive His free gift.

Feelings of inadequacy teach us to compare. We spend all our time being concerned about how we measure up, rather than looking for opportunities to help others. They teach us to be people pleasers. We jump through whatever hoops are necessary to feel loved and to be accepted, rather than making pleasing God our goal. And feeling inadequate teaches us to strive and compete. Even though we have God‘s Word at our fingertips, we miss the fact that God doesn’t want us to strive! He wants relationship. He wants obedience. Because our culture is so competitive, we believe the lie that we must strive in our faith, as well. The truth is that we are ALL inadequate! We all fall short on our own merit! No amount of striving or pleasing will ever move God. It’s only Jesus that makes us good enough, whole enough, and far beyond adequate enough.

When God called Moses, He didn’t let him argue or make endless excuses. He simply said that He would be with him, and that they would worship Him on that very mountain. And they did!

So when God calls you to go, don’t make excuses and talk yourself out of something that He should never need to talk you into. He is your God, He is in control, and you are here because of Him and for Him. When He calls, surrender…humbly and obediently. He will be with you. All He wants and deserves is your worship. GO! You are loved!
