But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and he chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

He chose what the world thinks is unimportant and what the world looks down on and thinks is nothing in order to destroy what the world thinks is important.

1 Corinthians 1:27-28

Sometimes in life, we feel like nobodies. Nobody worthy, nobody special, nobody important. During those times, it’s often hard to feel significant to God or influential to heaven. But did you know that the Bible is filled with a bunch of nobodies? And those “nobodies” made enormous, history-changing contributions to the story of God! Not a single one of them would make today’s “Most Influential People” list. Yet they each shaped history according to God’s perfect plan.

Noah was a farmer. Rahab was a prostitute. Ruth was a foreigner. David was a small shepherd boy. Andrew, Peter, James, and John, four of Jesus’ disciples, were simple fishermen. Mary was a very young teenager from a tiny town. Yet God chose her to carry His Son, who was born for us and died for us. During their “normal” lives, before God informed them that they were essential to His story, they may have been overlooked and under-appreciated. Just like many of us.

If you feel like a nobody, hang tight! God isn’t done! Your life is an important part of God’s story that never ends. When you live a life of faith and obedience, you are already influencing eternity. ‘Nobody worthy, nobody special, nobody important’ YOU are infinitely important to God and you, too, are fit for the Biblical Hall of Fame. Thank Jesus for your ordinary, every day heart that He is shaping it to look like His. You are not only part of God’s perfect plan; you are essential to His story, and you are changing eternity! You are loved!
