As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.

Galatians 6:14

God is always calling the faithful to step out and serve, often to do something hard, even scary. He calls us to the thing for which we feel completely unprepared, unqualified, and incapable. Those are pretty good signs that the assignments are from Him. He doesn’t call us to what is easy or natural, because He wants us to lean into Him and His power, and not rely on our own. He calls us out onto deep and sometimes threatening waters so that we have to trust Him to keep us afloat.

Our comfort zones are actually a long way from God. They are all about us, not about Him. They are safe and predictable, not useful or powerful. And they are definitely about avoiding discomfort, rather than expanding God’s Kingdom. But when we step out of our comfort zones, we experience what God’s power can do. That’s when we discover where we end and the cross begins. And the more impossible the task seems, the sooner we end. That’s when our faith grows, our hearts smooth, and our lives become more in tune with our Savior’s. That is when the blessings come pouring down.

Perhaps it’s time in your faith to crucify your comfort zone. When your life is truly surrendered and your goals are no longer comfort, security, and ease, you will find joy. When Jesus’ priorities become your own, you will find your purpose that gives life meaning. So when God asks, say yes! Even if it seems impossible, and you can’t see a way. Because He will take your “yes” and do BIG, powerful, eternal things! You are loved!
