Then Jesus told him, “Follow me.” Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved—

the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked, “Lord, who will betray you?” Peter asked Jesus,

“What about him, Lord?” Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”

John 21:19b-22

Oh how we love to get involved in everyone else’s drama and compare our lives with others! “What’s that to you?” That question convicts! This conversation took place after Jesus’ resurrection. He had limited time before ascending to heaven and was telling Peter some important information regarding his assignment. Jesus even told him that Peter was going to die for Him. (You’d think he might have a few more questions about that!) He should have locked eyes with Jesus and treasured and memorized every word. Instead, Peter looked around and started comparing. Jesus said, “Follow Me,” but Peter was more concerned with the life of another follower.

Perhaps like Peter did that day, you tend to focus on the wrong things. Maybe you get overly concerned with other people’s business, rather than focusing on Jesus and making Him your priority. You have been called to follow Jesus, and He will give you your own assignments. Rather than looking around at how others are doing in their faith, focus on your own. Hear Jesus’ words and allow them to convict every time your thoughts drift into the none-of-your-business zone. Jesus wants you to follow HIM, not someone else. When He says, “Follow Me”, lock eyes with your Savior, and don’t look back! You are loved!
