For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.
Proverbs 15:15
Today’s the day! It’s the perfect day for a verse about a feast! It’s the day we will all eat too much and quickly regret our decision to indulge in every good thing on the table. It’s the day where love silences family drama as we all gather together to celebrate our blessings. Hopefully you have lost count of the endless blessings in your life and have begun a gratitude list as a daily reminder of God’s goodness, His love, and His generosity. Keep that list going!
Tomorrow, our hearts will be set on Christmas, from fat turkeys to twinkling trees. And let’s face it, this time of year, it’s pretty easy to feel joyful. Holiday music and lights, peppermint mochas and eggnog lattes, and our long lists of favorite Christmas movies keep our spirits lifted high. But let’s not forget the lesson the Grinch taught us: Christmas doesn’t come from a store. And neither does JOY! A continual feast means there’s always joy in our hearts, not because of what’s out there, but because of WHO’S in US! Our joy is found in Jesus Christ! Our “feast”, our heart-party, lasts all year, because our hope is in Him alone. It is not found in the music and lights and movies, and it is never found in the gifts we will find under the tree in a few short weeks.
As you enjoy your turkey and mountain of mashed potatoes and pie today, and as you gear up for Christmas in the weeks ahead, remember the Source of the feast that never ends. Remember that no circumstances have the power to cancel the celebration of joy in your heart. Period! And remember that you are prayed for and deeply loved! Happy Thanksgiving!
