“I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
Jeremiah 31:3
What does an “everlasting love” look like?
God’s love is a love that never abandons; it pursues. ( As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will seek out my flock. Ezekiel 34:12 NET
God’s love never changes; it is constant. (I am the Lord, and I do not change. Malachi 3:6)
God’s love never lies; it is always honest. (So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Hebrews 6:18)
God’s love is never unfaithful; it keeps its promises. (He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.) Psalm 146:6
God’s love never complains; it rejoices. (He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. Zephaniah 3:17)
God’s love never disowns; it adopts. (God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:5)
God’s love never imprisons; it frees. (It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1)
God’s love is never in the dark; it is always pure light. (I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. John 12:46)
God’s love never drains us; it fills us. (For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:5)
God’s love that pursues you, is constant and honest, that keeps its promises, that rejoices, adopts, frees, lights up the dark, and fills you with Himself is always pouring down on you…you just need to open your hands! You are loved!
