“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland
Isaiah 43:18-19
In 1914, Thomas Edison, inventor of the phonograph, the lightbulb, and motion pictures, experienced a devastating hardship. His lab burned to the ground, destroying years of his work. What most would have considered the worst thing to happen to his work, Edison saw differently. He chose to see his circumstances as a great opportunity for a fresh start; a chance to re-examine and rebuild his work. He was actually happy that his “mistakes” had been burned up, and he celebrated the chance to start fresh again.
How many times have you cried over something that ended, but were ultimately thankful for a new beginning? Have you ever let go of a dream, only to find an even better one? Sometimes God uses the most uncomfortable situations, the misfortunes in our lives, to open the doors to His best things. The times that we struggle are also the times that we grow. God doesn’t want you looking backward, dwelling on the things of the past. He wants you to look forward with expectation at what He will do in and through you. He is doing a new thing in you every day! He is guiding you into the life He created for you. If you want to grow in your relationship with God, you’re going to have to allow Him to lead you in places you've never been before. He is already at work whether you see it or not. Remember that you can’t reach what’s in front of you until you let go of what’s behind you. So let go, and let God reveal His good things—the “something new” He has meticulously planned just for you! You are loved!
For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes.
Isaiah 65:16
