Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him.
Colossians 2:6 (HCSB)
If you are a follower of Jesus, living the life you have been called to live is hard. It’s easier to just have fun with friends; that way you’ll never have to face the possibility of rejection when you tell them about the Lord. It’s easier to spend your time scrolling Instagram or binge-watching something on Netflix than it is to spend time serving the poor or giving hope to those who don’t know Jesus. You may not miss anything your friends are doing or miss out on some quality entertainment, but you will definitely miss the blessings. It’s easier to start your day distracted by your phone than focused on God, but He will speak to you through His Word and through prayer, not through your phone. It’s easier to strive for popularity than for purity, but only purity can be restored by the grace of Jesus, only purity will last, and it’s the only one He cares about.
Imagine if God had chosen the easy way. How drastically different your life and your eternity would be if He had gone with “easy”. It would have been easier for God to have made humans entirely obedient, rather than allowing sin to enter the world through our disobedience. It would have been easier to have let Noah and his family die with the rest of civilization, but His plan was to redeem His creation and save His people, not destroy them. It would have been easier to have let each of us suffer the consequences of our own sin, but we could not be in relationship with Jesus without His sacrifice. It would have been easier to have spared Jesus the rejection, ridicule, and cruelty of the cross, but He could not save us without it.
God didn't choose easy, because the right thing is often the hard thing. Rather than choosing easy, choose to reach others with the love of Christ. Rather than choosing guaranteed acceptance, choose to share the Gospel with those who need to hear about Jesus’ love. Rather than choosing easy, choose to serve the Lord, study God’s Word, and pray pray pray! Don’t choose easy…choose wisely! You will be blessed! You are loved!
