When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves.
Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.
Philipians 2:3-4 NCV
Imagine what this world would look like if each of us pursued humility, rather than self-recognition. How remarkable it would be if we all chose to see others as God’s treasured children, woven together in heaven by His very hands. What if we all stopped focusing on ourselves and seeing others through eyes of comparison, pride, and jealousy? What if we were more focused on the hopes, the dreams, and the hearts of others, by seeing them through hearts of humility, love, kindness? If we all did that, no one would need a thing. Everyone’s needs would be met because everyone else would put other’s interests before their own!
Our world-focused minds don’t work this way on their own. But when we depend on Jesus with heaven-focused hearts every day, the transformation of our hearts from selfish to selfless is evident in our lives. Jesus is our perfect example of humility. He came down from heaven and willingly submitted Himself to the worst: the worst betrayal, the worst torture, the worst burden, the worst execution. He took nails for our sins, and He took nails for those who killed Him, too. He came because He loved us, and because we couldn’t have learned about true humility and sacrificial love any other way.
Ask Jesus to help you see others as He sees them. He will give you the humility to put aside your own agenda and to truly SEE others as His children. Children that He died to save. Only He can transform you into someone who loves all people well, because only He loves all people perfectly. When you humble yourself and choose to love like Jesus, it will change more than your heart and your life; it will change the world! Love BIG! You are loved!
