You are the God of miracles and wonders! You still demonstrate your awesome power.
Psalm 77:14 (TLB)
The Bible is full of miracles. There was Sarah’s old age pregnancy, Jericho’s crumbling walls, and Jonah’s three-day fish ride. There was water to wine, healing the sick, feeding thousands with a boy’s small snack, and of course raising the dead! We all love those miracle stories, and we would love a few to be woven into our own, but we would prefer to skip the crisis part and get right to the miracle. We want the miracle without the mess. But before any Biblical miracle, there was first a Biblical mess! Before God’s power was displayed, there was a predicament, a dilemma, an obstacle, a mountain. Before God ever sent Jesus to live on earth and bring light, hope, and joy, there was great darkness, despair, and sorrow. Before Jesus could heal, there was disease. Before He calmed it, there was a storm. Before He fed thousands, there was an enormous crowd of hungry followers that could have gotten ugly.
Sometimes we get so caught up in our messes that they control every aspect of our lives. And when we are laser-focused on our mess, we will always miss the miracles all around us. Before remission, there was disease. Before that dream job, there was unemployment. Before sobriety, there was addiction. Before reconciling a relationship, there was plenty of heartache. What once seemed impossible, obviously was not. Because our amazing God is a predicament-purger, a dilemma-deleter, an obstacle-ouster, and a mountain-mover!
If you are waiting for a miracle, there is much to be done while you wait. You can lean into Jesus and seek His wisdom and His heart right there in your Bible. You can change your perspective by looking at your problem through someone else’s eyes. If given a chance, there are countless people who would trade places with you, because their problem is far worse than yours. And you can pray and invite God into your mess, and rather than trying to fix it, change it, heal from it, or clean it up, you can surrender it to the only One who can. Don’t miss the miracle by focusing on your mess. Anticipate the miracle by focusing on your Messiah! You are loved!
